Ms. Schaeffer graduated from Syracuse University and received her M.S.W in administration and program planning from Florida State University. She has studied Social Service delivery in Amsterdam, The Netherlands and she earned a certificate from the Chemical Dependency Training Institute of the University of Miami. She is a native of metropolitan New York and she was born in Brooklyn. Ms. Schaeffer is former President of the Board of Directors of the Miami Behavioral Health Center. She joined the staff of the Public Health Trust as Assistant Administrator of South Florida AIDS Network. Ms. Schaeffer has worked for Miami-Dade College where she was the Director of Grants for the Wolfson Campus. She also worked in the area of economic development in Liberty City after the Civil Disturbance in 1980 after serving on staff of the South Florida Employment and Training Consortium of Dade and Monroe Counties. Ms. Schaeffer has spent approximately 10 years working in private industry. She has served on a number of community Boards, including SAVE, Dade Action PAC, the National Women’s Political Caucus of Dade County and the Board of Trustees of Temple Israel of Greater Miami where she is the Immediate Past President. She is currently working as a Consultant to Jewish Community Services of South Florida where she is the Liaison to the Adult GLBT Community strengthening the working partnership with SAGE (Service and Advocacy for GLBT Elders). She has lived in Miami-Dade County since 1977 and she is married to Roberta Goodman Mandel.
